Core Commitment: Nitix does not sell, commercialize, or passively track your browsing activity. Built under ethical, privacy-by-default standards.
1. Who We Are
Nitix is an independent epistemic intelligence and forensic media auditing platform, available as a Chromium web browser extension and via the nitix.app public portal.
2. Data and Operation in the Web Extension
Our architecture is built on the Local-First paradigm (processing directly on your own device):
- Zero passive background monitoring: The extension never tracks or inspects pages you visit in the background. Forensic analysis is initiated only upon your explicit invocation of the 'Audit' action.
- Personal API Keys (BYOK): Your Google Gemini or Groq API key is stored exclusively inside your browser's local sandbox (
chrome.storage.local). We never access, intercept, or transmit your private credentials to any remote server.
- Local extraction: Article text is extracted into memory in your browser exclusively when you request an audit.
3. Data on the Public Community Network (nitix.app/p/...)
When an article audit is generated or consulted via a permanent public link:
- The report contains exclusively public information from the news article (headline, news outlet, editorial profile, detected rhetorical patterns, and documentary verification against primary sources).
- No personal data: Reports never store IP addresses, usernames, browsing history, or personal account identifiers.
- The platform operates on globally distributed edge cloud infrastructure, featuring secure encryption at rest and strict end-to-end encryption in transit (TLS 1.3).
4. Telemetry and Product Analytics
To guarantee technical resilience and measure UX friction, we collect aggregated, anonymous technical metrics via PostHog (US servers):
- Technical metrics: domain of the audited article (e.g.
bbc.com, nytimes.com, or elpais.com; without private paths or personal URL parameters), engine used (Community Cache or AI), scroll reading depth, and latency.
- We do not use advertising tracking cookies or commercialize user browsing profiles.
5. Third-Party AI Providers
In direct AI mode, text processing is performed through the official APIs of Google AI Studio (Gemini) or Groq, under their developer terms of service where developer API calls are not used to retrain models without consent.
6. Your Rights and Data Control
You retain complete sovereignty over your data:
- You can erase local audit history at any time from the extension panel ('Clear History').
- You can uninstall the extension whenever you wish, which immediately purges all local storage.
